On Wednesday August 2, The Rotary Club of Walkerville has extended an invitation to our members to join them at the Meridien Hotel in Melbourne Street North Adelaide to hear Dr Roger Hunt deliver a presentation on Assisted Dying in Australia.
This matter has been and is still the subject of much moral, religious, philosophical, legal and human rights debate. At the core of this debate is how to reconcile competing values: the desire of individuals to choose to die with dignity when suffering, and the need to uphold the inherent right to life of every person.
Several legislative attempts have been made to legalise voluntary assisted dying in parts of Australia. However, it currently remains unlawful.
If you would like to attend this meeting, please phone Fran Wilson on 0415-301-012 by midday on Tuesday 1. Seating is limited, so book now!
On Thursday evening, August 3, The International Committee has arranged for us to enjoy the evening at Wassail, a very cool Wine Bar at 95 Prospect Road, in the heart of Prospect.
Join us at Wassail for an inexpensive and enjoyable night where, South Australian boutique wine, beer, cider and soft drinks are showcased; and yes, they do FOOD and there is “live” music featuring local talent.
On the morning of Wednesday August 9, The Rotary Club of Prospect Sunrise has invited us to join them on a tour of SAHMRI (South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute). Tour begins at 10.00am. If you would like to join this tour, please contact President Lynne a.s.a.p. Numbers are strictly limited.
On Wednesday evening, August 9, Les Dennis from The Rotary Club of Regency Park will be along to talk about Second Chances; in particular PK Kids.
The children of PK’s (Prisoners’ Kids) are the forgotten and innocent victims of crime, they too end up serving a sentence. Every child of a prisoner faces a different situation, sometimes they still have a parent to look after them, but other times they end up with grandparents or in state care. Wherever they end up, they are certainly facing change, and feeling hurt or confused. See more here: https://secondchances.org.au/what-we-do/
On Wednesday August 28, we will hear from Andreas Alexandrou about the decline of Butterflies and Bees, and what we can do to make sure they have a future. This is very serious.
If THEY don’t have a future, WE certainly WON’T.
This is one talk you shouldn’t miss!
